How did you get into Pilates?

A mentor’s friend was looking to train up a young enthusiastic girl – that was me (I had no idea what it was, it wasn’t cool back then). They thought I was a good fit with my background in gymnastic, it came very natural to me. I was already in the fitness industry. Pilates gave me x-ray vision and helped me correct poor biomechanics with my clients outside of the Pilates studio too.

Why do you love Pilates?

I love that it works. I love how it connects the mind and body through breath & reduces stress & tension as well as being a great strength workout. It’s a gentle and sustainable approach to wellness that will give you a greater quality of life not just superficial muscle bulk. Perky butts are just A+.

Why did you become an instructor?

Because it was genuinely the only thing, I wanted to do with all my heart. I love how I can combine my natural physical talents with my deep desire to connect with people through teaching. I like people, I like to show them how capable and magnificent they are even when they can’t see it. I can!

What makes your class special?

Teaching 18-26+ students of mixed abilities is not new for me. I understand healthy biomechanics and what the human body is capable of within the Pilates method. I know when you’re ready to be pushed and when you need to focus on stability. I offer progressions and regressions the whole class.

Why do you love teaching at Align Pilates?

COMMUNITY! We have created a warm welcoming culture I am so proud of. When we have new people come to class, the regulars help them out and welcome then in too. It’s truly amazing and warms my heart.

How long have you been an instructor?

10+ years

Do you prefer fitness or technical classes?

Technical! Technique is THE most effective and safest way to maximize your workouts. There is no point in going fast with sloppy posture and unstable joints. Controlled movements with recruit more muscle fibers deepening the work.

Why is Pilates your passion?

It aligns with my values, knowledge and experience. It enhanced my life, it’s constructed by integrity, respect and self-care. I want to share it with the world!

What makes your class sweaty?

Effective form, effective range of motion, effective resistance, effective duration, effective tempo, effective transitions, and my favorite – effective sequencing.

What makes your class unique?

People would say my analogies. I like to educate my students on healthy biomechanics in a way that’s understandable for the everyday person. Then they can take this anywhere and everywhere and not need me. I want my students to come back because they enjoy my classes! Once students understand healthy alignment, you can also push them a little harder which is great fun for me.

What are 3 x things people might not know about you?

1 – I was the Australian PRO bikini bodybuilder & competed on a world stage in Dubai placing top 5 & stopped because I wanted to be a good role-mode for younger girls I taught. Promoting diet culture didn’t feel right to me.

2 – I was a massive rebel in my adolescence and got myself into all sorts of trouble (I didn’t get caught. No regrets). Fitness and the people I meet in the industry put my on the right path.

3 - I love a physical challenge! I once completed a 1/2 Ironman and hiked to Mt Everest Basecamp in search for my wall. I think I found it in Pilates with side lying leg circles.

If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?

Teleportation. I have friends, family, favorite places & little pieces of my soul scattered all over the world. This would mean free, timeless travel, who wouldn’t want that?

How did you get into Pilates?

I got into Pilates doing my undergraduate degree in Contemporary Dance, it was part of our training.

Why do you love Pilates?

I love that it teaches you to work from your core or "powerhouse". If you are strong here then you are much more in control of your movement and a lot safer in any and every activity.

Why did you become an instructor?

I genuinely love to help others improve strength, posture and mobility. It's amazing to see the positive effects in each person who consistently practices pilates

What makes your class special?

I work on being 100% present and observant of everyone in the room and I like to make class fun. As everyone knows my favourite focus is sculpting long lean leg muscles! haha

How did you get into Pilates?
I found it online and knew I’d love it before I’d even taken a class. Growing up doing dance/gymnastics and athletics it seemed like the perfect mix of fitness and precision/control.

Why do you love Pilates?

The versatility! I’m a mix bag of interests, I love yoga, running, boxing, dance, a whole whack of things and my workout depends 100% on my mood. I love that no matter how I’m feeling,  there’s a pilates class that fits the bill. (Also found it to be the ultimate morning workout! Starting laying down doing footwork until the endorphins get pumping is soo much better than jumping out of bed straight into burpees/weights)

Why did you become an instructor?

I want to provide others with that 45 minute break in their day to breathe deeply and reconnect with themselves. I love being able to witness those moments when you’re stronger, more flexible, or have more stamina than the last time you tried a certain move

What makes your class special?

I hope connection! At the end of the day I’m here because I love connecting, I love how Pilates makes me feel, and that I want to help bring the same feeling to other people’s days.

Why do you love teaching at Align Pilates?

The community! I’m so excited to get to know everyone and have the support of such a welcoming community

How long have you been an instructor?

Since 2021

Do you prefer fitness or technical classes?

A mix of both! What’s great about pilates is not having to choose a hard-hitting HIIT, technique/control or a slow flow, it’s so versatile you can get such a range all within one class.

Why is Pilates your passion?

I love that pilates is for everybody - no matter your goals, or current abilities, or how you’re feeling on the day, pilates can be layered back or built up to meet each person where they’re at on the day.

What makes your class sweaty?

I enjoy finding ways to take an isolated movement and building it up to a full-body exercise. Not only does it get the blood-pumping, but I find there’s no better way to distract from a good leg-burner than by adding in a bit of an arm burner at the same time.

What makes your class unique?

The possibilities for creativity and progressions on the reformer are endless, and being that I’m still in the very thick of the learning phase I’m loving experimenting with new variations and finding out what’s possible! Having the classics, but adding the twist.

What are 3 x things people might not know about you?

I’m Canadian

I love following the moon cycles/astrology

I can recite word for word the entire Jim Carey Grinch movie

If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?

100% brain power!

Apparently we only use like 20% of our brains - imagine all the other superpowers you could unlock if you were able to access 100% of that brain power. (I think thats kind of like using 1 wish to ask the genie for 3 more wishes, but oh well).
